Energy Sector in India, during the last decade of this Millennium, has undergone major restructuring. Initial phase of energy sector reforms is now evolving a new pattern. The national priority is to provide access to energy services to the poor people in India. This calls for a focus on efficient use of traditional biomass and new renewables. The second challenge for the energy sector is consolidation of the reforms process and transferring benefits to the users in the shortest time. Adverse impact on environment due to use of energy sources is the third major challenge needing solution for industry, agriculture and domestic sectors. Utilization of information technology for quality energy services is the fourth major challenge. Geographic location of energy resources brings forth the need for regional cooperation in the South Asia, which forms the fifth major challenge. The book is an effort to present the status of energy production and energy supply to meet energy demand in the country; and options to counter the challenges of the energy sector in the next millennium. Some Views on the Book "This book is a good attempt to cover various aspects of the energy scenario at the micro, national and global levels." K.C.
