Abu Hayyan's writing of the book "Enjoyment and Sociability" has an interesting story, because Abu al-Wafa' al-Muhandis was a friend of Abu Hayyan and the minister, Abu Abdullah al-Arid. So Abu al-Wafa' approached Abu Hayyan with the minister, connected with him, and praised him, until the minister made Abu Hayyan one of his companions, so he spent thirty-seven nights with him. He used to talk to him about it, and the minister would ask him questions about various issues, and Abu Hayyan would answer them. Then Abu Al-Wafa asked Abu Hayyan to narrate to him everything that had taken place between him and the minister, and he reminded him of his blessing upon him in his connection with the minister, even though he (meaning Abu Hayyan) was not qualified to accompany the ministers due to the ugliness of his appearance and the vileness of his dress, and he threatened him that if he did not do so, he would harm him. With it. Abu Hayyan responded to Abu Al-Wafa's request and followed his ruling. He preferred to write it down in a book containing everything that had passed between him and the minister, from the delicate, the solemn, the sweet and the bitter. So Abu Al-Wafa agreed to that.. "And from that was the book of enjoyment and sociability."
