L'ulilisation maîtrisée de méthodes statistiques et quantitatives jointe à une expérience de la codicologie et de la paléographie et à une très bonne connaissance des particularités de la Bible latine font de cet ouvrage, parfaitement présenté, un outil fondamental pur les recherches sur l'histoire du livre en général, sur l'histoire de la Bible latine en particulier à la fois comme livre (ici portatif) et comme passage obligé des bibles monastiques et chorales à la Bible de Gutenberg.
