The field of environmental science is immensely benefitted like any other field of science with advances in nanotechnology. Nanotechnology is opening up new avenues of research in environmental science by design, development and fabrication of accurate, sensitive, miniature and cost-effective pollution monitoring devices that can prevent, reduce, sense and treat harmful environment contamination in air, water and soil. Nanotechnology can also help in decomposing harmful pollutants into less toxic components and reduce the production of harmful side products and wastes in industrial processes. Few representative examples of nanotechnology in environmental remediation includes use of nanoparticles for remediation of contaminated groundwater and soil; for solar photocatalysis remediation of toxic contaminants in water; magnetic nanoparticles for arsenic removal in water; nanofilters, nanomembranes and nanoadsorbents for decontaminating water and air; reverse osmosis membrane for seawater desalinization; development of more stable and environment friendly fertilizers and wood products towards green manufacturing; nanocatalysts for desulphurizing fuels; nanowires and nanotubes as sensor elements in chemical and biological sensors for detecting pathogens, chemical and biological agents in air, water and food and many more. The present volume looks into development and applications of nanomaterials for clean and green industrial processes to achieve a more sustainable society with less environmental pollution. The present volume comprises a discussion on following topics: o Environmental pollution remediation using nanotechnology o Nanomaterials for environmental remediation o Applications of membrane processes in wastewater treatment o Functionalized nanocontainers and nanomaterials for waste water treatment o Use of nanoparticles from biowastes and microbes in water treatment o Iron-based magnetic nanoparticles for environmental remediation applications o Environmental applications of semiconductor photocatalysis for reducing pollution o Controlling the migration of fertilizer and pesticide through micro/nano networks o Color removal from synthetic wastewater of textile industry by pine waste biomaterial o Engineering Ralstonia eutropha for chemical production o Degradation of phenol, benzene and cyanides in semi-industrial ozonation pilot plant o Source and applications of microbial exopolysaccharide o Future perspectives of biomimetic calcium-phosphate coating o Industrial and commercial nanomedicine o Application of nano-materials in radioactive waste management o Environmental challenges of nanotechnology in subsurface This volume contains 16 articles from 56 researchers and/or academicians representing 14 nations, namely Brazil, China, Egypt, France, Greece, India, Iran, Israel, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Spain, Thailand, Turkey and United Kingdom giving an overview of the various research activities being carried out in different parts of the world on Industrial Processing and Nanotechnology.
