An investigator journeys to a castle in a remote valley on a frontier planet to determine the motivation for a gruesome suicide. When he arrives, he encounters a sexually profligate cult focused on a local fungus with hallucinogenic properties. As he learns more about the alien psychedelic and its devoted users, he discovers a sinister threat to his sanity and his life.
