He served as Director of Operations & Intelligence during the Gallipoli campaign and also on military missions to Russia and in staff posts in the Ministry of Munitions. In this memoir he recounts his experiences as a witness to the many successes, a few of the disasters and the unstinting effort of the high command of the British War effort during the First World War.
