Autorenporträt
J. Howard Olds is among an elite group of gifted preachers who can communicate passionately and directly the transforming power offered in Jesus Christ. Throughout his remarkable ministry, Howard has demonstrated profound leadership, spiritual insight, and visionary pastoral administration. I have been privileged to be closely associated with Howard during the years I have served as president of Asbury Theological Seminary in Kentucky. Before accepting the leadership of Brentwood United Methodist Church in Tennessee, Howard served outstanding churches in Lexington and Louisville, Kentucky. He was frequently elected to the General and Jurisdictional Conference delegations, where we served together, seeking to impact the larger church with the Wesleyan truth that we both share with such passion. He led our Kentucky delegation to General Conference in 2000. I have journeyed with him through his painful struggle with cancer and have been inspired by the enormous faith and great strength he and his family have shown in his ongoing battle. Howard lives the truth that we all know, that the victory is in Jesus Christ the transformer and healer. The writings in this small volume reflect the creativity and energy Howard projects in serving the body of Christ. Having originated as television and radio spots, they are light and uplifting reflections offered to the larger community of persons in and outside the church. I personally know the value of this sort of evangelism, as I offered a similar outreach during my ministry in Memphis, Tennessee. Many people have testified to the touch of these encouraging messages. They represent the mandate of Christ's great commission, creatively expressed in an appropriate manner to reach secular culture. Howard's gift for expressing Christ's love for all persons is well articulated in the brief selections in this book. I know they will inspire everyone who reads them, and I commend the simple yet profound truths contained in these writings. They are a beautiful expression of the faith that all persons need.
