Fierce, bold, and beautiful, falcons hold a special place in the hearts of people. In Falcons of North America, renowned raptor advocate and environmental educator Kate Davis opens a door into the lives of these extraordinary, often imperiled birds of prey. With contagious enthusiasm, Davis details the lives of North America's six species of true falcons - American Kestrel, Merlin, Aplomado Falcon, Prairie Falcon, Peregrine Falcon, and Gyrfalcon.

"Kate used her experience as a falconer, researcher, rehabilitator, educator, conservationist, and artist to give us an insight into how falcons live and their relationships with humankind," writes William S. (Bill) Clark, author of The Peterson Field Guide to Hawks of North America.

More than 200 stunning color photographs by award-winning wildlife photographers Rob Palmer and Nick Dunlop, 13 illustrations by the author, and range maps for each species make Falcons of North America not only a valuable addition to any bird lover's library, but also a collection of great art.

Autorenporträt
Kate Davis began life with a love of animals and was caring for mammals and raptors with the Cincinnati Zoo Junior Zoologists Club starting in 1973. Her father had a great interest in photography, tutoring Kate with a darkroom in the basement during her childhood. She received a degree in Zoology from the University of Montana in 1982 and founded the nonprofit educational organization Raptors of the Rockies in 1988. Kate keeps a dozen nonreleasable and falconry birds at the facility at her home in western Montana. She has presented 1,800 programs featuring these raptors for 136,000 people, young and old alike, plus has conducted keynote addresses across the country and one TED Talk. Her raptors are the subjects and source of inspiration for her etchings, welded steel sculptures, photography, and writing. She has authored and illustrated five books on raptors, and Raptors of the West, with photos by Rob, Nick, and Kate, won the National Outdoor Book Award and Montana Book Award Grand Prize. Her sixth title is a blend of photography and humor, Birds Are People, Too.
