Familiar Unspelled

A Cockatoo Bay Paranormal Cozy Mystery Book 1

Death doesn't always mean the end. Sometimes it signals the beginning.

Pharmacy postgraduate, Christy Fair, is still reeling from the recent sudden death of her mum. Now alone in the world, she struggles with the constant 'are you a witch?', which has plagued her throughout her life. The defensive walls she has built around herself ensure everyone is kept at a distance.

But when one of her classmate's allegedly suicides, Christy must confront her natural reaction to retreat. Christy is sure that her classmate was murdered, but first she must get the police to agree to investigate.

Can a small orange dog, who insists on being part of her life, and a mysterious box labelled Meg, help to find a murderer, and provide Christy with the answers she's been searching for?

Join Christy and Maisie in the search for a murderer, and the blossoming of a new relationship amid a cloud of orange hair.

Autorenporträt
Hello! As an Australian author I have made the decision to write stories set in Australia and use British English, so while some of the spelling may have seemed weird to you, it is just our Aussie way and being a little different.

While Familiar Unspelled is technically my second book, I have learnt a lot about writing over the past year, and readers of my first book Jingle Bells, Cracker Spells will see I have made changes (I am rewriting Jingle Bells, and this will become Book 3 in Christy's and Maisie's story). This wasn't an easy decision, but one that allows me to share my beautiful island home with you. Although my home isn't called Cockatoo Bay, we do live on a bay and yellow-tailed black Cockatoos fly past my window several times a day and inspired the setting for Aunt Meg's home.

Although I am now semi-retired from the permanent workforce (so I can write books), I spent most of my life nursing and teaching. I had a career in agriculture (predominantly horses) and went back to university at 30 to become a nurse and got my PhD at 55 (it's never too late!).

I love the natural world, and as I get older, I am appreciating the historical aspects of the places I live and visit. I love family and friends, animals from tardigrades to blue whales, and all creatures in between. I love forests and oceans, mosses and fungi, and most importantly, I love making up stories where they can all be brought to life on the pages I write.

Familiar Unspelled is the beginning of Christy's and Maisie's story and sets the scene for upcoming books.
