Stein Ringen is professor of sociology and social policy and fellow of Green College, University of Oxford. He has held various academic posts in government, including assistant director general in the Norwegian Ministry of Justice. He is the author of The Possibility of Politics, to be reissued by Transaction in 2006 and many more books.
