Shirley Yang was born on December 8, 1938, in Fu-Chien, China. In 1949, she fled with her family to Taiwan when Mao's Communist Party took over the Chinese Mainland. She met her future husband, David, in college, and together they decided to pursue a better life in America. Over the years, she worked tirelessly to transform from a penniless foreign student to an information systems specialist at Hughes Aircraft Company, with an MBA degree from SMU in Dallas, Texas. After more than forty years in the computer industry, Shirley retired in 1997 to follow her interests in travel, fashion design, oil painting, and writing. Most of all, Shirley enjoys being a grandmother. She feels that she finally knows what matters most: besides enjoying life on earth, you have an obligation to your family, your society, and your world to make it better for future generations. In August 2014, Shirley was diagnosed with breast cancer and is currently under treatment. No matter the outcome, she feels she has not lived her life in vain.
