One of the complex problems in Arabic music is the depiction of melodies... It is hardly necessary to depict an Arabic Maqam to some degree, until the methods become complicated and the styles become twisted. Some musicians try to apply this practically to any musical instrument, and then move from that to writing down degrees. Among them are those who begin applying this maqam, starting from the degree on which they want to record it, and even if they have achieved that, they collect the intervening transliteration marks and place them in the maqam guide. By intuition and guesswork, not based on a rule or law. Perhaps the secret in this is that there is no basis upon which the Arabic Maqam evidence is built, so that it can be relied upon in depicting melodies, as is the case in Western music. This book is a step towards concentrating Arabic music on fixed rules and moving it from improvisational studies that do not depend on fixed rules to sound scientific study that is based on the rule.
