'Fish Stories' features some of the most entertaining historical and factual aspects of the sport of fishing, as well as techniques and equipment used throughout the last centuries. From reels to creels, rods to bait, outboard motors ... even a bit of fishing fashion and some culinary highlights ... anyone who enjoys wetting a line from time to time will enjoy the laidback, campfire-storytelling tone that 'Fish Stories' conveys. Frank Koffend is an octogenarian who grew up in Central Wisconsin where, for little boys, fishing was as common as playing marbles at recess. Being the fifth of five kids, he was given almost complete freedom by his mother ... of which he took full advantage. His outdoor exploits at a very young age were legendary and included fishing on 39-mile-long Lake Winnebago in a tiny boat at the age of 9, miles from shore. At the age of 14 Frank and a friend rode their bicycles to Canada, and the next year hitchhiked approximately 6,500 miles from Wisconsin to Los Angeles, down to Mexico, up the Pacific Coast Highway to Portland, then back through Idaho, Montana and Yellowstone to his home in Wisconsin. He also spent several summers traveling with a Midwest carnival, manning the 'Pitch 'til You Win' game. Over decades, Frank learned the 'hands-on' way the best techniques and equipment to use to catch fish from Florida to Wisconsin and beyond. From canoeing some of North America's most dangerous waters on the Canadian border, to fighting massive sport fish in the tropics, Frank has done his time on the water. Along the way he has met some of the world's leading experts in everything to do with fishing, Throughout 'Fish Stories' the message is clear: If Frank Koffend could leave the reader with just one impression, it would be one of conservation and preservation of our flora, fauna and aquatic wildlife. Throughout the years he has learned - and seen - enough to realize that there is a delicate balance in nature that is slowly being tipped ... and not in a good way in most regions where he has ventured. Frank currently spends his time between his Appleton, Wisconsin home and one in Boca Grande, Florida - both fishing meccas. He continues to fish, and to write, and to impart his message of conservation.
