Flickers is the second collection of haiku poetry by Smajil Durmievic. With this book as well, he manifests all the characteristics of a gifted poet, in love with the Japanese ancient poetry form of haiku, which has been written worldwide, for a century now. Durmievic is Bosnia's and the Bosnjak haiku poet, writing his flickers with the pearls of the Bosnian language. For most of his poetic reflective impulses he finds thematic motives in the area of the past and present of his beautiful homeland Bosnia and Herzegovina.

As with his first book as well, and even more present in Flickers Durmievic easily broadens the haiku borders of themes and motives, he finds new impulses, at the same time achieving stratified poetical reflective miniatures, which are a little puzzling for the devotees of this poetical form.

Autorenporträt

Dr. Smajil (Bego) Durmisevic was born on February 6, 1956 in Vratar, County Rogatica, Bosnia and Herzegovina. He completed Medical Studies at the University of Sarajevo, in 1982. He specialized in the school-age medicine, in 1990, and in hygienic medical ecology in 2000. The title of Primarius was conferred upon him in 1997. Durmisevic earned his Master's Degree in Medicine at the University of Sarajevo, in 2001, and obtained his Doctorate in Medicine, at the same university, in 2006. As a Docent, he teaches the courses in Religion and Health, as well as Hygiene and Medical Ecology, at the Public

Health College of the University of Zenica. Furthermore, he teaches Health Education, at the Islamic Junior College of the University of Zenica, as well as the courses Research in Public Health Care and Medical Ecology, at the graduate Master's Studies, at the Medical Faculty of the University of Zenica.

He has been the Director of the Organization for Hygiene and Health Ecology of the Cantonal Institute for Public Health Care in Zenica, since 1997. He has 65 refereed or published research papers, one-hundred-ninety popularizing articles in the field of medicine, and three book-size textbooks Health in Human Environment, Religion and Health, and Hygiene and Health Ecology A Practical Guide. He has participated in different research projects, in Bosnia and Herzegovina and abroad. His special interest is health education and the promotion of healthy lifestyles.
