The fantastical elements of how I perceive New York City are something that I intend to keep on imbuing into my photography. The exploration of what is reality and what is perceived reality filtered through a variety of influences is a key focus of my work. Starting out in photography with limited tools enticed me to learn more about light, which in turn, has set me on a lifelong journey attempting to capture something as fleeting and vast as the transient quality of New York City and other places around the world.

My name is Stan Alt. I have always wanted to write a book because I enjoy learning writing and reading. The idea to write this book was conceived because I wanted to enter a photography contest, but the main requirement is that the photographs must be included in a published book. I was in contact with AuthorHouse regarding a different matter, which did not take place as expected, but it worked out perfectly; now I can use their expertise. As a visual learner, I enjoy watching movies, taking pictures and drawing. I appreciate art, and I want to learn how to make art, not just consume it. Growing up, television was my escape and haven. I had some needs only fiction could fulfill. My parents were busy providing for the family and could not be bothered by fiction and logic. I learned at a young age, since I was the youngest in the house, to learn quickly and quietly-which was not a problem since I was an introvert. My parents were great, but I could not reach them; they seemed like gods to me. I developed a love for moving pictures and art, but I was bad at drawing, and there was a myth that art could not be learned but gifted. I felt trapped because I loved drawings but could not draw because I did not have the gift. Yet I always felt like I could do it but never practiced. As I became more confident, I started drawing because of Japanese animation, especially Akira Toriyama. I love his style. In the meantime, I started taking pictures and later on took a photography class, and I have been hooked ever since.
