Professor LaMarr Magnus has been an award-winning fitness director during the last twelve years. Lamarr has also set numerous sales records in regard to initial sign-up and sessions completed as a top ten trainer in Chicago. Professor Magnus has sold over seven hundred thousand dollars in personal training sessions in his career. LaMarr and his older sister, LaDonna, were raised in a single-parent household by his mother, Eunice Magnus, with strong Jamaican values. LaMarr was a high school athlete who received a scholarship to play football at Quincy University. There, LaMarr studied exercise science under Doug Johnson, whom he assisted with strength and conditioning research and application. Professor Magnus received his bachelor's degree in Exercise Science from Quincy University in 2006 and went on to earn his master's degree from Northeastern Illinois University in 2010, majoring in Human Performance. At Northeastern, LaMarr was a graduate assistant studying under David Cutton and assisting with the areas of self-talk and motivation in athletes. At Northeastern, LaMarr was honored with a Research Symposium award for his research topic in "Mediation and Anxiety Levels." During his time at Northeastern, LaMarr worked his way up the fitness ladder, managing various gyms and educating trainers. LaMarr has lectured on the topics of "The Psychology of Fitness Sales," "Client Renewals," and "The Art of Price Presenting." Mr. Magnus is currently a professor of exercise science at Benedictine University, Prairie State College, and Malcolm X College, where he is the current program director of exercise science and sport studies.
