Born and bred in the village of Weston, Bath, where he still lives, the author spent a short time as a trainee draughtsman before being recruited locally into the Admiralty, now part of the Ministry of Defence, as a civil servant. Remaining in Bath throughout his career, he spent a total of 43 years in the Civil Service in a variety of appointments, including some foreign travel in the later stages. Since retirement, the author has worked as consultant to foreign-based providers of commercial services to United Nations peacekeeping forces in the troubled areas fo world, the US Defense Department and the Cruise industry. The persons and events mentioned in the book have brought back to the author many happy memories which he is pleased to share with readers. Furthermore, he hopes readers will appreciate not only the story of a career but also the funny things in life.
