Between the present day and yesterday, there are close ties and ties connected by lineage. Therefore, in our present renaissance, we must be patient and take careful consideration, time after time, at that wonderful, majestic legacy. We should not advance a step until we take its gift and prepare for it, illuminating the rays of the past so that we can be guided in the present to the right path. For this reason, this book was written, and it includes a series of lectures organized by the American University in Cairo, which were honored by an elite group of figures from the intellectual renaissance. In its entirety, it is divided into two parts: the first is the impact of Western culture on Arabic and the impact of Arab culture on Western. Professor Muhammad Kurd Ali gave six lectures, and Professor Ali Mustafa Musharraf gave one lecture. As for the second section, it includes the impact of free and independent thought, noting the leaders of thought in The eighteenth century in France, such as Voltaire, Rousseau, Renan and Taine. Dr. Taha Hussein gave five lectures in it, and there is no doubt that Arab culture has been greatly influenced by this Western culture, whether in law, art, education, or economics.
