In From Catalina...with Love, Doris Pereyra-Rosenberg tells the deeply moving and at times unsettling tale of her upbringing in a large, poor family, which exposed her to various "homes" and traumatic experiences. Her ability to survive those early days and eventually thrive as a successful and joyous adult, despite many setbacks, is at once uplifting and inspiring. This very sobering story does happily lead to a heartfelt reunion of a group of childhood friends known as "Los Fosforitos."

Autorenporträt
Doris Pereyra-Rosenberg was born in the Dominican Republic and emigrated to the United States in 1968. An accomplished artist, her paintings capture the feel of her very modest upbringing. She lived in Brooklyn for a number of years before settling into Astoria, Queens, where she has been since 1992. She retired in 2006, after 27 years at the New York City Transit Authority. From Catalina...with Love, her first book, is a memoir of her early days growing up in the Dominican Republic, poor and often uprooted, while maintaining her loving spirit.
