The book seems to take on a foreign Hallmark twist as it winds through various joys and difficulties of one young immigrant teenager from Europe, but never quite attains the warm-fuzzy ending of a Hallmark that the reader will come to understand is part of the "misery" of Antonia's life. The golden thread of faith and hope that weaves through the book is the age old promise that God is still in control - if you let Him! As Antonia, your goal in life is to hold fast through the ups and downs, hang on to each win or learn from each loss, and find your unwavering faith!

Autorenporträt
In the early 1900s, a feisty, petite 15 year old girl and her two older sisters left Poland just as the Russians were beginning to take control, and immigrated from Poland to America. Early one morning, under cover of an old farm wagon laden with hay they held their breath as their paid driver was sneaking them past the Russian guards to cross the border into Germany. Leaving everything they had and all that they knew, Antonia Wasielewski tells her story of the ability to overcome relentless obstacles in life by sheer persistence, determination and faith. Willingness to be a servant, often of necessity, she survives and learns the patterns of the new country. The sisters marry, raise families and became full citizens in spite of various adversities, never forgetting the unbearable, destitute life behind them and thanking God for the new, although always newly difficult life ahead.
