Coming from a conservative, middle-class background in South America, he didn't move to California escaping poverty or lack of opportunities, he migrated because he craved adventure. While pursuing a career as a bilingual music journalist, he seized the opportunity that being on his own in a new country provided, and used it to explore his own, previously-repressed, sexuality. After some initial luck with the ladies (something totally new to the 24 year old nerd) he's forced to redefine his public persona while slowly embracing his new sex symbol status. He first gets to experience some small doses of rock star promiscuity in Los Angeles before relocating to San Francisco where he would ultimately find a life-changing job opportunity in the sex industry.
