The advantage gained in using vectors is that they are moveable, and not tied to any particular coordinate system. As we have seen in the examples of the previous section, geometric facts can be easily derived using vectors while working in coordinates may be cumbersome. However, it is often the case, that in working with vectors we must do calculations in a particular coordinate system. It is important to realize that it is the worker who gets to choose the coordinates; it is not necessarily inherent in the problem. The present book aims at providing a detailed account of the basic concepts of vectors that are needed to build a strong foundation for a student pursuing career in Mathematics.
