I hope that 'gender recognition' legislation, which reveals a failure to differentiate between sex and gender and, with respect to sex, a denial of the definitive role of chromosomes, will soon be repealed. I fear that this horror story will take its place. Gender Fraud: a fiction tells the near-future story of Kat, a sixty-two year-old woman who is arrested for gender fraud: when 'gender recognition' legislation is repealed, it becomes illegal for males to claim they are females and vice versa; due to the persisting conflation/alignment of sex and gender, it also becomes illegal for members of one sex to present as the other (that is, for men to be feminine and women to be masculine). Since gender fraud is understood to indicate gender dysphoria, Kat is sentenced to six months in a psychiatric institution for treatment.

Peg Tittle has an M.A. in Philosophy, a B.Ed., and a B.A. in Literature. She has published several books: Critical Thinking: An Appeal to Reason (Routledge); Should Parents Be Licensed? Debating the Issues (Prometheus); What If? Collected Thought Experiments in Philosophy (Longman); Ethical Issues in Business: Inquiries, Cases, and Readings (Broadview). Her articles have appeared in The International Journal of Applied Philosophy, Philosophy in a Contemporary World, The New Zealand Rationalist and Humanist, and Humanist in Canada. She has also written three novels -- It Wasn't Enough (Inanna, 2020), Exile (Rock's Mills Press, 2018), and What Happened to Tom (Inanna, 2016).
