"Gentle Night" is largely an autobiographical novel, which Fitzgerald himself called his favorite work, and many critics praised the "Great Gatsby". This novel is the story of a difficult relationship between a young American actress Rosemary, a young talented psychiatrist Dick Diver and his wife Nicole, whose illness is an echo of Fitzgerald's own drama (his wife Zelda suffered from schizophrenia). This is a novel about love, passion, desire to save a marriage, despair and self-deception, in which the fate of individual heroes is seen in the image of an entire era. Fitzgerald traditionally planned to describe the age of jazz - the turbulent 1920s with their parties, waste of life and love extravaganzas. But, according to the writer, while working on the text, he realized: "the most expensive orgy in history has come to an end."
