The present study is an attempt to update the taxonomic information on prawns of the genus Penaeus Fabricius, 1798 under the family of Penaeidae Rafinesque - Schmaltz, 1815, found in Indian water. This study focuses on the species composition, their distribution in Indian water and elsewhere and aspect of fishery.
