It was said that Ibn Abi Rabi'ah was born on the day Ibn al-Khattab died - may God be pleased with him - and people used to say after that: What truth has been removed and what falsehood has been suppressed! They are astonished that this person came into the world on the day that other person went. As for a great right that was removed from this world on the day Omar ibn al-Khattab left it, that is something about which there is no doubt or disagreement. As for a falsehood that was established in this world on the day Omar ibn Abi Rabi'ah came to it, there is doubt and disagreement about it. And we We do not care if those who disagree agree on Ibn Abi Rabi'ah's share of truth and falsehood, so let him have what he wants and those who disagree. What concerns us is whether it is worthy of literary study or not. It is a topic on which scholars do not disagree. Because Ibn Abi Rabia is - without a doubt - a literary phenomenon, and a psychological phenomenon that has few parallels in Arabic literature, and his right to study is the same as the right of all poets known for their gift of art and sincerity of expression.
