In the year 2020, when people around the world lost some of their loved ones to the deadly COVID-19, Sandeep lost his best friend to depression. Sandeep noticed that unlike physical ailments, a mental illness like depression is gradual and progressively exacerbates over time. In the case of his best friend, his 12 symptoms of depression were spread over the last 12 years of his life. During this time, only Sandeep and few other close friends witnessed its unfolding.
Gin Soaked Boy is a memoir of one boy and the life he lived before the eventual capitulation to depression. While one life couldn't be saved, if the signs were read at the right time and interventions implemented, hopefully another could be.
