Ginger Cross Country is the fictionalized autobiography of the author, Ginger Ellen Reese. The forty-one thousand word novel starts with her resolve to leave her troubled life in Bridgeport, Connecticut, for an imagined better life in Santa Monica, California. At age twenty-four, the beautiful redheaded Ginger packs her Mini Cooper with all her possessions and hits the road. She follows the Interstate highways to her idealized destination. Along the way, she encounters sex, love, adventure, personal insight, and a lot of fun. On the road, she meets and overcomes every obstacle while crossing the vast interior of the United States, discovering the land and the people. Once in California, she develops a new life, with new friends and colleagues, solving her problems and building a solid future.
The book is part romance, part travelogue, and part inspirational story of Ginger's personal development. From rural towns far from any city to glitzy, glamorous Las Vegas and Los Angeles she finds what there is to find, usually hooking up with local partners, at least for a while. Despite deeply buried inner doubts, she expands her experiences and potential while avoiding serious problems.
Ginger is strong, confident, and eventually highly successful.
