She visited the Newseum where there are exhibits of real news stories. A few selected students from all over the world get accepted into JSA. Shalonze-Ltian Mivens was one of the few based on her outstanding grades, academic performances, and interests in making a positive difference.

Joann Hill, a Philadelphia native, is a multitalented Renaissance woman. This volume exhibits her poetry and artwork; however, she is also an accomplished musician (keyboardist), composer, and singer. She has performed in numerous shows and concerts across the United States, including Atlanta, Georgia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Hilton Head, South Carolina, Alabama, and Tybee Island. Joann Hill produces and performs her own original compositions; her versatile style allows her to sing in several musical genres, among them jazz, blues, rhythm and blues, pop, and rock. Her performance as a contemporary jazz soloist was filmed for TV in Savannah. She was also a winner of singing contests at Tybee Island and at Hilton Head Beach, South Carolina. Her talents as a vocalist and keyboardist have been exhibited at churches, at festivals, and at various black tie affairs, even at the Hilton Hotel ballroom. She has delved into hip-hop, with her children rapping to her original compositions. Joann Hill is also a fashion designer-another avenue for her creative talent-and a model who did photo shoots for Essence magazine. Her photogenic style also impressed the photographer of Chic magazine. Her image graced Fresh magazine, where she became an assistant editor. She did fashion shows for Musicor Entertainment supplying commentary in French. A review of her commentary appeared in Musicor Review News. Her modeling work, in fact, extends beyond this country; she worked with top models in Trinidad. In New York she trained, modeled, and did photo shoots for Couture Models and Total Career Models. Joann Hill has also worked with Charisma I Models and the Glamour Flair Agency of Philadelphia. She appeared in an ad for the Franklin Maternity Center with her talented children. She has had stage experience with the Drama Guild of Lincoln University and studied acting at Temple University. She acted in plays performed at Lincoln University, where she was also a member of the Lincoln University Dance Company, which performed throughout the United States and other countries. She choreographed her many dance performances. Joann Hill is a liberal arts graduate of Lincoln University. She also ran 440 relays for a professional track team with a best time just two seconds off the world record! Joann Hill's original music compositions, original dance compositions, original fashion designs, and her singing have been highly received. She has received various awards, including trophies, plaques, letters of commendation, and monetary awards, as well as standing ovations for her performances. She has also performed and traveled with many bands and with the Lincoln University Gospel Ensemble. Her artwork has been displayed at the Unitarian-Universalist Church of the Restoration, the YWCA, the Afro-American Art Museum Festival, Lincoln University, and La Salle University. Reviews of her displays and performances have appeared in the News from the Unitarian Universalist Church in Mt. Airy, the La Salle Campus News, the Germantown Courier, and the Chestnut Hill Local (all in Philadelphia) and the Herald News (Savannah). She appeared as a guest on WSOK Radio in Georgia, and her performances with the Lincoln Dance Company were recorded for TV shows. Her artistic talents have been recognized with awards from the Afro-American Art Museum. She received several annual banquet awards from Lincoln University, including medals, trophies, plaques, and award letters, of which one was a distinguished service award. Her early poetry was published in the Lincoln News. Her arts, crafts, and music have been recognized and accredited by Goodwill Industries, where she studied in its entrepreneur program. The City of Philadelphia recognized her with an outstanding citizenship award, and from the YWCA she received three such awards with special recognition for her being the founder of the Laissez Faire Social Club for teens. Even in her high school days at Sayre Junior High she received awards for art, drama, history, poetry, dance, track, and karate. She also painted a mural display at Sayre Junior High School. Joann Hill is a multifaceted multientertainer and artist. She uses art media to express her philosophical ideas. Her versatile style displays her various talents.
