This book is not a comprehensive study of Russian literature; Rather, they are glimpses into this literature, which has undergone developments that are sometimes quiet and sometimes revolutionary... from popular literature to revolutionary literature to regional literature to socialist literature. In every era, writers appeared who truly represented their era. Popular writers were expressing the hopes and desires of the people in a twisted way imposed on them by their circumstances. Likewise, revolutionary writers were expressing the revolution that was taking shape in their minds and souls, in an ambiguous expression within the limits of the restricted freedoms they enjoyed - just as regional writers were expressing their attachment to their country and their belief in it. Their preference for it is an expression derived from their social, economic and political circumstances. Then the socialist writers came and expressed their socialist principles in an expression that did not complete all the reasons for boldness, strength and steadfastness, because they were still "lost" and did not know what tomorrow might bring.
