Autorenporträt
Brian F. Head was raised in Georgia, and he received a competitive appointment from a member of the House of Representatives from Georgia to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point, from which he was graduated in 1957. He served in the United States Army Signal Corps, with occasional temporary duty as interpreter for Portuguese and for French. When not on duty, he attended Colorado College (Colorado Springs CO), from which he received the degree of Master of Arts in French in 1960. He attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison, from which he received the degree of Master of Arts in Portuguese and Luso-Brazilian Studies. He received the Ph.D. in Linguistics, with specialization in Romance and Semitic languages from the University of Texas in Austin in 1964. He has taught at several universities in Brazil, Portugal and the United States, and he is an emeritus professor of the State University of New York at Albany. He has published numerous studies in the fields of languages, linguistics and literature. He is an honorary member of the language academies in Brazil and Spain.
