Could you board a plane to a third world country without a return ticket home? It's a decision, Lesa Scarlett Grimes (mom of four girls, career woman, and wife) never thought she'd be forced to make. Could you board a plane to a third world country without a return ticket home? It's a decision, Lesa Scarlett Grimes (mom of four girls, career woman, and wife) never thought she'd be forced to make. After three painful years living in limbo, Lesa and her husband Tim were finally given the green light to adopt their daughter (Grace) from an orphanage in Nicaragua. On one condition Lesa had to move to Central America (with their six-year-old daughter Lucie) to finalize the adoption. In May 2009, the Grimes girls boarded a plane; only nothing they packed in their suitcases would prepare them for this journey. That's where Grace Our Ticket Home, a memoir begins. I never set out to document this time in my life as I am not a "e;writer,"e; but I felt compelled to pick up my laptop and let the experience flow. Once I got going, I couldn't stop. It's real, it's raw and a little rough around the edges. I didn't leave out any happy dance moments or rip out my hair episodes. (Believe me, there were a lot of them!) My three-year love affair with Nicaragua taught me so much about who I am, the people I love and the person I want to become. This book is for any soul who longs to make an impact beyond themselves.

Autorenporträt
Lesa Scarlett Grimes' first loves are her husband and children. Fashion and travel come second and third, and a good tequila brings up the rear. (Don't judge her.) She values her relationship with God and is grateful for all of the blessings and hardships she's endured, as she feels they are often one of the same. Lesa is the mom of four daughters (Allie, Scarlett, Lucie, and Grace) and describes her family as "blended, complicated and wonderful." She is thriving in her marriage to her best friend, Tim whom she lovingly refers to as Baye. Lesa graduated from Northwest Missouri State with a Bachelors Degree and spent 26 years in the telecommunications business. She retired from the industry as an executive before starting a new career in real estate. This working mom does not function without a to-do list, which feels incomplete if she's not training for a marathon or involved in some type of service project. She has a passion for helping children, especially those living in third world countries. Her most epic adventure to date was moving to Nicaragua without a return ticket home, and that's where her memoir begins.
