ten-year-old cousin, Shayla. A fierce rivalry develops between the two

each time and Shayla confesses to her mum that she feels Michael's life
is much more exciting than hers in Arouca. She thought she was special,

qualities, and for cheering up her poor old granny in the process...

Patrice Lawrence is a half-Trinidadian writer born in Brighton. Her first published story, Duck, Duck Goose was included in the Decibel Penguin Prize Anthology. She is currently working on a longer novel for children, and we are looking forward to reading more from this talented young writer.
