In this work, the author, who has degrees in philosophy and psychology, draws upon his research in biblical studies and the history of the early Roman empire. He has also made use of his own symbolic experiences and his work with dreams, in which he attempts to reveal archetypes operative in humans. Often, he has found that heroism arises when historical forces encounter characters with an archetypal dimension.
