Plant diseases are among the important factors that are responsible for causing yield loss in crop production. The loss due to diseases alone is estimated to be around 26 per cent. Diseases may attack at any stage of the standing crop, from seedlings till maturity of the crop. Diseases in plants are as similar as diseases in animals and human. We cannot see the actual organism responsible for disease but we feel and see the symptoms. Disease can be described as "any deviation from the normal behavior in a living organism is called a disease". Different living organisms have different diseases and different microbes cause different diseases. The text is substantiated with many hand-drawn illustrations, which are of excellent quality and in fact is the highlight of the book.

Ramniwas Sharma is Assistant Professor of Biology in the Department of Science at the Bipin Bihari College, Jhansi (Uttar Pradesh). A brilliant student throughout, he obtained master's degree in biology from Delhi University. Beside publishing many research papers, he has authored more than nine books on different topics of biology. He has also participated in many seminars/conferences actively and presented his papers.
