Autorenporträt
HlROSHl MURATA is a Consultant to The Furukawa Electric Company, Ltd. in Tokyo, Japan, where he has served in a variety of engineering and management positions since 1947. Previously he worked in Furukawa's Telecommunication Laboratory on broad-band balanced type cables, coaxial cables, and circular millimeter waveguides, and, as Manager of the Development of Optical Fibers and Cables, he contributed significantly to research on optical fibers, cables, and communications. The author of three books and numerous technical papers, Dr. Murata holds 36 patents in Japan as well as one each in England and France. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), which presented him with a citation "for leadership in the development of optical fiber cable technology" in 1986, and he is a member of the Optical Society of America and the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers of Japan. Dr. Murata received the B.S. (1947) and Ph.D. (1962) degrees in electrical engineering from Tokyo University in Japan.
