Hannibal Fogg & the Supreme Secret of ManThrough a life cloaked in mystery, Edwardian polymath Hannibal G. Fogg pushed the boundaries of exploration, science and code-breaking - producing feats of unrivalled cerebral dexterity. Hailing from a landed family, Fogg was a confidant to world leaders, a soldier, swordsman, prolific author, inventor, collector, and quite probably the most extraordinary man ever to have lived. But, while such genius won him accolades and fame, it also fanned the flames of envy. Unable to take Fogg's triumphs any longer, the British establishment sought to have him discredited. His life work was publically destroyed in what was to become known as the 'Great Foggian Purge'. Banished from England, he lived out his days in secrecy - before disappearing on an expedition to Manchuria in the winter of 1939.Almost eight decades passed. Then, one morning William Fogg receives a letter from a legal firm in London, claiming he's the sole inheritor to his great-great-grandfather's Estate. Knowing almost nothing of his forebear, he takes possession of the single object left in the bequest - a large rusty iron key... the key to a door in Marrakesh. And there begins the treasure trail of mystery, danger and uproar, as William pieces together the clues left for him by Hannibal Fogg. Zigzagging through five continents, the quest reveals how Alexander the Great was never beaten in battle. By completing the life work of Hannibal, William Fogg strives to lift the veil on the Supreme Secret of Man.First in a series of ground-breaking adventure novels from master storyteller, Tahir Shah, Hannibal Fogg and the Supreme Secret of Man is unlike anything published in recent times. Ten years in the making, it's as worldly and wise as the indefatigable Hannibal Fogg.By the celebrated author of The Caliph's House, a TIME Top Ten Book of the Year.

Autorenporträt
Tahir Shah is the author of twenty books, published in more than two-dozen languages world-wide. His work spans the realms of travel, fiction, and fantasy, and is regarded as especially original by the legions of readers who follow him.Nothing is so important to Tahir as illuminating the hidden underbelly of places ¿ whether they be lands through which he himself is travelling, or enchanted kingdoms conjured from his rare imagination. The son of thinker and author Idries Shah, Tahir was encouraged to embark on adventure from an early age. The journeys formed the basis for a series of astonishing travel books ¿ detailing a fabulous range of quests.Tahir studied magic with India's god-men, roamed war-torn Afghanistan for the lost treasure of Ahmed Shah (valued today at $520 billion), scoured the Peruvian cloud-forest for the lost city of the Incas, and mounted a bizarre expedition through the Upper Amazon on the trail of a former head-shrinking tribe.Taking a break from what others might regard as endurance travel, Tahir bought a ramshackle palace located squarely in the middle of a Casablanca shantytown, and set about exorcising its resident Jinn. The years spent exploring Morocco through its tradition of stories, and learning of the kingdom from the inside out, formed the basis for a pair of acclaimed books, In Arabian Nights, and The Caliph's House ¿ the latter being nominated as a TIME Top Ten Book of the Year.In addition to publishing, Tahir has presented a number of travel documentaries detailing his quests ¿ most notably concerning Afghanistan, Peru, and Ethiopia. These extraordinary films have aired on National Geographic TV, The History Channel, and the UK's Channel 4.Outspoken about the hold mainstream publishers have on authors, Tahir established Secretum Mundi Publishing, to show writers how to free themselves from what he regards are the bonds of outside control.Handling both Tahir's backlist and forthcoming publications, Secretum Mundi will release the full corpus as a way of showing ¿ in a kind of blueprint form ¿ the possibilities of keeping control. In the months and years that follow, Tahir Shah plans to continue launching a range of work ¿ fiction and non-fiction. As with his existing catalogue of publications, it's sure to challenge its readers, by revealing hidden marvels in a world observed inside out, and upside down.
