Brigadier (retired) Ben Barry is the IISS expert on modern warfare, military strategy, operations, tactics and - particularly on land. He saw operational service with the British Army in Bosnia, Northern Ireland and the Middle East. His book The Road from Sarajevo: British Army Operations in Bosnia 1995-96 was shortlisted for the British Army Book of the Year 2009.
