I spent months looking for a title for these stories. I had found about a dozen, but none of them particularly appealed to me. One day I went to have the car painted - the painter was a Pontian who spoke broken Greek. He told me that he would need to keep the vehicle for a week to do the painting. And he generously added: "I'll give you this "Seicento" [a thirty-year-old "FIAT"] to drive around, to do your job until I'm done." "And how much did you get this "Seicento" for?" I ask him. "Five hundred euros used," he replies, "but I spent another thousand and changed the spark plugs, the gearbox, everything, even the head spins." As soon as I heard what he said, I thought: "Ah, I found a title."
