When commercially produced antibiotics became available to the general public, the world was ecstatic. These incredible new wonder drugs could cure anything, and with new forms being discovered on what seemed like a daily basis, it was a foregone conclusion that the world would be free of communicable diseases by the end of the 20th century. No longer did people have to fear infections. The miracle drug had arrived, and bacteria had nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, no way to survive. Or did they? Many doctors prescribed antibiotics for just about any kind of infection under the sun. Even though antibiotics were anti-bacterial in nature, they were still prescribed for viral and fungal infections as well. Sometimes those prescriptions were written simply to appease patients who insisted on an antibiotic no matter what kind of infection was present. In their minds, antibiotics killed infection, so they needed antibiotics. And in many cases, the doctor complied. Many patients who needed antibiotics to fight an infection didn't take them as prescribed. Once they started feeling better, they stopped taking the antibiotics rather than finishing the series as the doctor had told them to. Farmers found out that they could grow more livestock more quickly, if antibiotics were fed to healthy livestock. The antibiotics are mixed into the animals feed and water on a daily basis. Unfortunately, no one realized how quickly bacteria adapt. How they communicate with each other. How they evolve within just a few generations, building immunity to highly focused chemical agents which had easily killed them off just a short time before. There are, of course, still a great many infections which antibiotics are capable of curing. However, there are now several strains of antibiotic resistant "superbugs" for which modern medicine has no cure. So where do we go from here? What do we do now? Now we look to the past, to the herbal treatments used by mankind for generations. Find out how they can help you get off pills, fight infections, and live a healthier life.
