With the rise of Christianity in the second century CE, early Hermetic literature had emerged. It was centered on the Corpus Hermeticum, a collection of holy, mystical books. Some of the books in the Corpus Hermeticum feature esoteric teachings via exchanges between Poimandres and Hermes and Asclepius to his son, Tat. The teachings include a wide range of philosophical concerns, stressing the existence of the soul and the fundamental constituents of the universe.
The Emerald Tablet of Hermes Trismegistus is among the most amazing Hermetic works. Alexander the Great has unearthed The Emerald Tablet in a cave near Hebron. The three aspects of wisdom known as alchemy, astrology, and theurgy were carved on the tablet.
