This series of classics of philosophy, written and translated, is the most prominent foundation upon which our modern renaissance was based, and upon which previous generations were raised. We are in dire need today to republish these classics from pioneering works and translators for the benefit of our younger generations, especially in light of the scarcity of what contemporary specialists write in philosophy and its various fields, and in light of the absence of a philosophical approach to thinking in our contemporary lives, which was the direct cause of what we see of extremism, fanaticism, stagnation, and lack of understanding. Accepting others and losing the ability to analyze and criticize ideas. *** De Boer sensed a major deficiency in Western studies on Islamic thought, as most of them are partial, not allowing Western thinkers to draw a general map of the patterns of this thought, its relationship to its Greek counterpart and Christian theology, and its impact on Western thought in the Middle Ages, so De Boer decided to write this book. Encyclopedic, to be an introduction to Western researchers interested in Islamic philosophy. Perhaps he did not realize - while writing this book - that an Arabic translator would come and transfer his efforts to the Arabic language. This translator is the veteran and researcher Muhammad Abd al-Hadi Abu Raida, explaining and correcting in Arabic language so that the reader does not feel that he is dealing with a foreign text. Abu Raida was able to transform this book from a work targeting the West into a philosophical reference for Arab specialists in Islamic philosophy. If the reader looks at the vast historical and geographical area to which this work is exposed, he will understand the extent of the tremendous effort that Abu Raida exerted in producing the book after it was translated effectively. It was necessary for this reference to return to the shelves of the Philosophy Library after a new investigation. He adds to the work, by reviewing the translation based on de Boer's original text, correcting some spelling and grammatical errors, and reviewing and explaining some concepts.
