Not only was she shy, but Mike detected a pathetic sadness about her. He couldn't help but feel sorry for her, and he wanted to get to know her a little better as well.
Her name was Amy, and she had very little to say to him. It wasn't that she was unfriendly. It was just that it seemed extremely difficult for her to say much of anything.
