Josephine Anderson has one mess of a marriage to clean up. It would be easier if she knew where Ray, her AWOL husband, went, but he didn't leave a forwarding address. She always imagined her retirement would involve a chaise lounge and a Pina Colada, but since Ray disappeared, it wrecked her vision. After giving him three wonderful kids and the best years of her life, he has the nerve to leave her now.
While waiting for his return, she makes some new friends. Friends she might like more than Ray. She passes the time visiting Helen, an elderly woman with a son who likes Josephine. She has a big German Shepherd and a teenage girl in exile because she might be gay as her handler. They form a bond over the summer, only to have it threatened by Ray's return.
It's at Helen's funeral where Ray shows up and causes a scene. Josephine has to decide in what direction she wants her life to go. Her kids wish for her to reconcile and restore the family home. Ray wants his wife back. But nobody figures Josephine has a few wants of her own.
