2018 edition for WordPress 5.0

What if you could choose, buy a domain name, then host your own website for literally pocket change. It's not a dream, but something you can manage by yourself. You don't need coding skills. Just follow the steps outlined in this book and you'll be online in no time.

Building a website might seem an intimidating task for many, but the truth is there are plenty of free tutorials and guides that can help you build a website from scratch in no time, even if you don't have previous experience with programming.

If you're already a typical Internet user, the chance is you already know how to do many of the things outlined in this book. All I'm trying to do is piece all things together in an easy to follow step-by-step guide so you can focus on getting to the finish line, which is hitting that "Publish" button of your first post.

This book will cover all the basics, advice about picking your first domain name, choosing the right hosting provider and then starting your first website using WordPress, the go-to free open source software for creating blogs and websites in a matter of minutes. It's one of the rare instances when free doesn't mean "of questionable value".

I've picked WordPress because I've been using it to build and manage my friends' blogs, clients' and my own websites since 2006.

I'll keep recommending WordPress because it's very easy to use and yet powerful enough to do what you set your mind to by using any of the free or paid plugins and themes developed by an active international community of WordPress enthusiasts. Over 100 million websites are using WordPress. They can't all be wrong, right?

And did I say you don't need coding skills to build your own website? I've said it and you may hear it a couple of times more from me because that's an important part of the reason I've started writing this book.

Most people assume you need some sort of programming knowledge to build a website, but the reality is there are plenty of free tools you can use to go online with just a few easy clicks. If you've used a computer or smartphone before you'll have no problems understanding what I'll be showing you in this book.

If you decide you need a website there's nothing really stopping you from starting without needing extra help. Read on and you'll see how easy it is to publish your first post on your own website.

Autorenporträt
Ionuț-Alexandru Popa a writer and Editor-in-Chief at BinaryFork. He is passionate about technology, science, space exploration, and movies. He started writing about tech more than 20 years ago, after graduating in Computer Science. ... I'm a tech enthusiast, science aficionado, and movie buff who's been writing about technology since 2003. My expertise in writing encompasses PC components, mechanical keyboards, and software, which I've chosen to spotlight on the BinaryFork tech website. I also curate the 'PC is Dead, Again' newsletter, offering straightforward software tips that anyone can utilize for efficiency. Imagine this: back in my school days, if you'd whispered in my ear that I'd be penning books in the future, I would have burst into laughter. But life has a funny way of surprising us, doesn't it? I discovered that the world of books extends far beyond just literature. So, don't be taken aback when I say I don't see myself as a traditional writer, but rather as a professional who also crafts technical books. Harnessing my early 2000s web experience, I'm on a mission to author books that guide others through their digital journey. My skill set is diverse, spanning content strategy, writing, affiliate marketing, and a sprinkle of SEO. But that's not all! My books and articles often delve into the realm of coding, a skill I occasionally put to use as a webmaster with a penchant for tweaking and optimizing. I've contributed to quite a few tech websites, including my own, and often find myself creating websites simply because I love to build. My passions also extend to digital marketing and graphic design. After earning my Computer Science degree in the early 2000s, I embarked on my career with a printed tech magazine. Over the course of my 20+ year career, I've worn many hats: hardware and software editor, webmaster, project manager, blogger, video editor. And who knows? I might just add a few more titles to that list. When I'm not immersed in the tech world, you'll find me unwinding with movies and PC games. I'm an avid reader too, with a soft spot for Sci-Fi. So, if you have a captivating book recommendation, I'm all ears!
