This book gathers the refereed proceedings of the 5th HFEM Biennial Conference on Human Factors and Ergonomics, organized by the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society Malaysia, held in Langkawi, Malaysia on August 13-18, 2023. Yee Guan, Ng Ng Yee Guan is an Associate Professor at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), teaching Industrial Hygiene as well as Human Factors and Ergonomics. His research and consultative work focuses on Occupational Safety and Health, covering areas such as human factors and ergonomics, indoor air quality and lighting assessment, heat, noise, vibration and chemical exposure monitoring. He has led Human Factors and Ergonomics Malaysia (HFEM) as the President from 2019 - 2023 and contributed to several other national and international initiatives and associations. During his tenure as the President, he also served as the Chair of Malaysia Federation of Occupational Safety and Health (MyFOSH) leading 17 OSH-related association in Malaysia. He is committed to advancing research and development in exposure assessment and has played a key role in revising national OSH guidelines and fostering collaborations in ergonomics and industrial hygiene. As a result of his enthusiasm, he has been appointed to serve as the Director of Occupational Safety and Health Management Office in UPM from April 2024 - 2027. Dian D.I. Daruis Dian Darina Indah Daruis is an Associate Professor at Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM), where she has dedicated her career to nurturing talents including the future leaders and servicemen of the country. She held the role of Director for the Centre of Students Development and Leadership from 2021 to 2023 after serving as the Director for the Centre of Entrepreneurship & Innovation Development from 2017 to 2020. Prior to that, she was the e-learning coordinator while simultaneously being a member of the Malaysian IHL e-learning council (MEIPTA) from 2015 to 2017. As an academic, she teaches undergraduate mechanical engineering students Solidworks and AutoCAD for Engineering Drawing, Manufacturing Technology, and guides them through their Capstone Projects. Whilst post-graduate students benefit from her expertise in Research Methodology, Managing Innovation, and Ergonomics. Her current research in Human Factors and Ergonomics involves assessments and measurements for occupational safety and health, as well as the study of perception and attention levels for human-machine interaction. Keen on making a broader impact, she aspires to expand her research to empower communities through ergonomics. Beyond her administrative and academic roles, she is a Toastmasters Competent Communicator & Leader with the Perwira Toastmasters Club. She is also lifetime membership at the Malaysian Science and Technology Society (MSET). Since 2010, Dian has been a dedicated member of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society of Malaysia (HFEM). She has served in various capacities, including as an ordinary member of the Board, Secretary, and Vice President over several terms. With HFEM, she gained the experience to establish the Guidelines on Ergonomics Risk Assessment at Workplace in 2017 for Department of Safety and Health Malaysia. Dian is very committed to human factors and ergonomics field. She hopes to become a professional ergonomist and strengthen her position in this area. Nor Wahiza Abdul Wahat She is an Associate Professor at the Department of Professional Development and Continuing Education, Faculty of Educational Studies, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). She is currently serving as the Department Head of the respective department, and teaches Organizational Psychology as well as Performance Management for the Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Development program at UPM. She is also the Editorial Board Member for Malaysia Social Institute. Nor Wahiza is actively involved in non-profit professional organization, currently appointed as the Chair of Special Interest Group for Organizational Ergonomics and Well-Being under the Human Factors and Ergonomics Malaysia (HFEM), 2023 - 2025. She is also active in volunteerism as demonstrated by her involvement being one of the Board Members for Malaysia Ihtimam Foundation and the Head of Cluster for Social Volunteerism besides the various community projects focusing on empowerment of people with disability and volunteerism. Her research work and consultation focus primarily on well-being in higher education system, career success and workability of people with disability. Among her recent work is on organizational inclusion for the deaf and hard of hearing which includes the essence of deaf space. Her passion on empowerment for people with disability has led her to translate the research findings into training modules as the founder of VACCET Private Limited Company, which dedicated its operations and goals for further development of this minority group.
