In one study, a novel hydrazone compound (E)-N'-(3,4-dihydroxybenzylidene)isobutyrohydrazide (hbibH2) was obtained from the reaction of isobutyric acid hydrazide with 3,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde. This hydrazone compound is characterized both theoretically and experimentally. In a subsequent study, a design of the molecules carrying hydrazone or thiosemicarbazone, as well as a sterically-hindered ortho-diphenol moiety with bioactive metal ions in a single scaffold, is presented for the purpose of the efficient inhibition of a broad spectrum of bacteria and fungi.
