Maria Lucilia da Silva was born in Figueiró da Serra, Gouveia Portugal. After earning a scholarship to pursue her studies, she moved to Costa da Caparica, Portugal. In 1976 she moved to the United States where she still lives with her family. Her husband published one of her short stories titled "Amor de mãe" in 2014.
