"I Get High Watching Paint Dry" is the first of a two volume autobiography series by Gregory Newson. A nonfiction book on substance abuse survivors. Aimed to discourage youth from drugs, this is Gregory's African American artist story from the abyss.

Gregory shares a heart-wrenching and inspiring story of surviving family neglect, sibling rivalry, shame, self-loathing, poverty, drug abuse, and other tragic circumstances. He shares his calling to be an artist fighting his internal civil war with his past self enslavement. His spiritual entity saves his life many times.

Conceived from statutory rape of his mother, who was born on a farm that was once the home to slaves in Jacksonville Florida. His grandfather relocated the family to New York City's Harlem community.

Gregory started having dreams about himself as a slave during the American Civil War and many years later he was invited by a leading Certified American Hypnotist examiner to participate in a past life regression medical study. The mental experiences are provided in the APPENDIX.

He is a recovered drug addict and bigot. His second volume book, titled "Painting The Snow Monkey In The Crack Palace," reveals his departure from a heroin addiction. He tells how media propaganda in the 80s was a contributing factor by pushing cocaine as non addictive.
