After college and law school, he wrote technical legislation for the U.S. Congress-but maintained his thirst for exotic outdoor pursuits. He explored deserts, mountains, and jungles. He hitchhiked, rode motorcycles, paddled kayaks, and traveled on bush planes and tramp steamers. He sailed the oceans and the islands of the Bahamas and the Caribbean. Along the way, he survived multiple accidents and a few near-death experiences.
